How to sponsor a refugee
Canadians can sponsor refugees abroad to come and live in Canada permanently.
Refugee sponsorship usually lasts 1 year. As a sponsor you’ll:
- support them financially to cover things like housing, food, clothing and furniture
- help them find work, sign up for school and get around your community
You can’t sponsor a refugee on your own. You must be part of one of the following groups:
Sponsorship agreement holder Open
You’re an organization that wants to sign an agreement with the Canadian government to sponsor a certain number of refugees each year.
Group of five Paused
You’re a group of at least 5 Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to sponsor refugees to resettle in your community.
Community sponsor Paused
You’re an organization, association or corporation that wants to sponsor refugees to resettle in your community.
If you want to sponsor a refugee to resettle in Quebec
You must apply through the Government of Quebec.
